Constructed almost entirely from scavenged materials (that is, other people's rubbish). Bought: corrugated pvc for the roof (I didn't fancy having heavy double glazed units overhead), a few bags of cement, some sand, some screws.
The biggest scavenged items were all those double glazed patio doors and those opening window units for the corners - all picked up at the local dump. The bricks and timber were a non-trivial bit of scavenging, too. The brickwork has a cavity (!), filled with old packaging foam for insulation.
Catching the evening sunshine yesterday.
(Edit, 2007: There's another one, very similar to this, now.)
Thanks! I've had real fun constructing it. I hope the tropical plants that are going to inhabit it like it. At the moment it's mostly full of things waiting for better weather before moving out onto the allotment.

I doubt there'll ever be another one just like it. I've got plans for another one, a bit smaller, for things that don't need quite such tropical conditions. I've got quite a stock of big sheets of glass that didn't get used in this one, and an idea of a place to put it. But the exact design of things like this depends on what materials one manages to scavenge...
And you don't want to know what I'd charge for labour building something like this. If it hadn't been a labour of love, it would have been VERY expensive.

Great! It's amazing what folk discard - lucky for you though! Given enough scavenging time and effort, one could build a whole house for next to nothing - I suppose the biggest costs would then be the plaster and paint!
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
